Քաղաքագիտական աքսիոմա կարելի է համարել այն միտքը, որ ազատ մամուլը ժողովրդավարության անկյունաքարն է: ԶԼՄ-ներում բազմակարծության կարևորությունը, քաղաքացիներին տեղեկատվություն տրամադրելիս օբյեկտիվ, որակյալ ու էթիկական լրագրության նշանակությունը, ինչպես նաև իշխանությունների հաշվետվողականության ապահովման նրանց գործառույթը անփոխարինելի են և չկրկնվող:

ԶԼՄ-ներն են ձևավորում հասարակական կարծիք, և սա անշրջելի իրողություն է: Եվ երբ նույն ԶԼՄ-ները վերոնշյալ գործառույթը ծառայեցնում են հասարակությանը միտումնավոր նենգափոխված ինֆորմացիով սնելուն և թունավորելուն, «ամոթի պատ», այսինքն՝ սև ցուցակ ստեղծելու գաղափարը ավելի քան արդիական է դառնում:
