Նիկոլ Փաշինյանը և Իլհամ Ալիևը սույն թվականի օգոստոսի 8-ին Սպիտակ տանը՝ ԱՄՆ նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփի հովանու ներքո, նախաստորագրել են «Խաղաղության և միջպետական հարաբերությունների հաստատման մասին համաձայնագիր»: Փաստաթղթի կետերից մեկում նշվում է, որ Հայաստանը չպետք է որևէ պահանջ ներկայացնի Ադրբեջանին, ինչը փաստացի նշանակում է Լեռնային Ղարաբաղից ամբողջովին հրաժարվել։ Գործարքի մյուս մասը՝ «Թրամփի ճանապարհը»՝ Զանգեզուրի միջանցքը ԱՄՆ-ի հովանու ներքո, չի կարող ստեղծվել պետության ինքնիշխան տարածքում, քանի որ դա հակասում է Հայաստանի Հանրապետության Սահմանադրությանը։ Այս պատմության մեջ Ադրբեջանը չի երևում որպես հաղթող, քանի որ կարող է ներքաշվել նոր տարածաշրջանային հակամարտության մեջ:

Մինչ Նիկոլ Փաշինյանի իշխանության գալը տարածաշրջանում խաղաղություն էր։ 2018 թվականի «հեղափոխությունից» հետո հարաբերությունները Ադրբեջանի հետ կտրուկ վատացան, տեղի ունեցավնոր պատերազմը, նաև շարունակվում է սովորական հայերի կենսամակարդակի անդադար անկումը:
