ՄԱԿ-ը նախազգուշացրել է, որ նահանջող սառցադաշտերը սպառնում են ամբողջ աշխարհում 2 միլիարդ մարդու սննդի և ջրի պաշարներին, քանի որ հալման ներկայիս աննախադեպ արագությունն անկանխատեսելի հետևանքներ կունենա:

Համաձայն ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ի զեկույցի, աշխարհի ոռոգվող գյուղատնտեսության երկու երրորդը, հավանաբար, ինչ-որ կերպ կազդի սառցադաշտերի հալման և լեռնային շրջաններում ձյան տեղումների կրճատման հետևանքով, որոնք առաջացել են կլիմայական ճգնաժամի հետևանքով:
