Բզկտված ԱՐՑԱԽ. վերադառնալու´ ենք:
 
ՄԱՏԱՂԻՍ, գյուղ Արցախի Հանրապետության Մարտակերտի շրջանում, որը Նիկոլի և նրան կցված խունտայի շնորհիվ, ներկայումս ժամանակավորապես գտնվում է Ադրբեջանի «զինված ուժերի» վերահսկողության ներքո։
Գյուղը գտնվում է Թարթառ գետի ձախ ափին՝ 400-500 մետր բարձրության վրա։ Այն տեղաբաշված է հանրապետության հյուսիս-արևելյան հատվածում:
 
Համայնքը հարթավայրային է, ունի 1291,88 հա տարածք, որից 1103,94 հա գյուղատնտեսական նշանակության, 1268,06 հա անտառային հողեր։ Մատաղիսի սահմանային գոտով դեպի Մատաղիսի ջրամբար է հոսում Տրտու գետը։ Համայնքի տարածքում են գտնվում «Կոլին դռիգ» և «Հոռի» աղբյուրները։ Հավելենք նաև, որ գյուղի տարածքում առկա են բարիտի, կոպալի և կրաքարի հանքային պաշարներ։
 
Գյուղի տարածքում կան պատմամշակութային հուշարձաններ` Սբ. Եղիշե եկեղեցի (1892-1898 թթ.), գերեզմանոց (XVIII-XIX դդ.), Եղիշե Առաքյալի վանք (XII-XVIII դդ.), Վաչագան Բարեպաշտի մատուռ-դամբարան (1286թ.), կրկնահարկ դահլիճ (1552թ.), խաչքար (XII-XIIIդդ.), դամբարաններ (մ.թ.ա. II-I հազ.), հաշվառված է 30 հուշարձան։
 
Եղիշե առաքյալի վանքը (Ջրվշտիկ) հիմնադրվել է 5-րդ դարում Վաչագան Բարեպաշտ արքայի կողմից: Վանական համալիրի տեղում եղել է հեթանոսական սրբավայր՝ Միհր Ներսեհեա անունով: Վաղ միջնադարում Ջրվշտիկ վանքը սերտորեն կապված է եղել Արցախի կրոնական և քաղաքական կենտրոնների մոտակայքում գտնվող Գլխո վանքի, արքայանիստ Գյուտականի, Կաղանկատույքի, Բերդակուրի հետ՝ լինելով պատմական Արցախի նվիրական սրբավայր-ուխտատեղին: Այստեղ են ամփոփվել Սուրբ Եղիշեի մասունքները։ Վանքի տարածքում է գտնվում Վաչագան Բարեպաշտ թագավորի դամբարանը, ինչպես նաև 18-րդ դարի Ջրաբերդի իշխան Մելիք Ադամի հանգստարանը: Ջրվշտիկ անունը վանքը ստացել է հարավային կողմում գտնվող խորը ձորի համանուն ջրվեժից:
 
Մինչև բռնազավթումը Մատաղիսի բնակչությունը կազմում էր 665 մարդ, համայնքում կար 201 տնտեսություն։ Բնակչությունը հիմնականում զբաղվում էր գյուղատնտեսությամբ` անասնապահությամբ և հողագործությամբ։ Նշենք նաև, որ համայնքում գործում էր գյուղապետարան, բուժկետ, միջնակարգ դպրոց, որտեղ սովորում էին 109 աշակերտներ, համայնքն ուներ պետական մանկապարտեզ, որտեղ հաճախում էր 25 երեխա։
 
Արցախյան պատերազմի ընթացքում՝ 1991-1992 թվականներին Մատաղիսի ուղղությամբ կատաղի մարտեր են տեղի ունեցել։ 1992 թվականին ադրբեջանական զինված ուժերն իրենց վերահսկողությունն են հաստատել բնակավայի նկատմամբ, ինչի պատճառով այնտեղի բնակչությունը տարհանվել է դեպի հայկական այլ բնակավայրեր։ 1994 թվականի ապրիլին հայկական զինված ուժերի ստորաբաժանումներն իրենց վերահսկողության տակ են վերցրել Մատաղիսը, իսկ նույն թվականի օգոստոսից սկսվել է գյուղի վերաբնակեցումը։ 2016 թվականի ապրիլյան պատերազմում Ադրբեջանի զինված ուժերի ստորաբաժանումները գրոհել են Մատաղիս գյուղի ուղղությամբ` նպատակ ունենալով գրավել այն։
 
2020 թվականի հոկտեմբերի 3-ին Մատաղիսի գրավման մասին հայտարարել է Ադրբեջանի պաշտպանության նախարարությունը։ Ադրբեջանի վերահսկողության տակ է անցել նաև Մատաղիսի՝ ստրատեգիական նշանակություն ունեցող ջրամբարը։
