Համաձայն անգլիական էպոսի՝ այս կառույցը ստեղծել է հրաշագործ Մերլինը, սակայն իրականում այն ստեղծվել է շատ ավելի վաղ, քան ենթադրաբար ապրել է հրաշագործը։ Հաստատ է միայն այն, որ գիտնականները չեն կարողանում հասկանալ, թե ինչպես են տեղափոխվել այդ վիթխարի քարերը, և թե ինչպես է օգտագործվել կառույցը։
