Այսօր Փղերի պաշտպանության համաշխարհային օրն է

Մեծ թվով երկրներում սեպտեմբերի 22-ին նշվում է էկոլոգիական տոներից մեկը՝ Փղերի պաշտպանության համաշխարհային օրը (World Day of elephants), որը հիմնադրվել է բնապահպանական կազմակերպությունների, էկոլոգների եւ ոչ անտարբեր մարդկանց նախաձեռնությամբ, որոնք մտահոգված են այս կենդանիների թվաքանակի կրճատմամբ։ Ինչ-որ մեկի մոտ այս փաստը կարող է առաջացնել զարմանք, բայց ավաղ, այսօր այս հաստ կաշվով կենդանիները եւս պաշտպանության կարիք ունեն, փոխանցում է Calend-ը։ 

Փղերը, որոնք մոլորակում ամենախոշոր ցամաքային կաթնասուններն են, դասվում են Elephantidae ընտանիքին, կնճիթավորների՝ Proboscidea դասին։ Նրանք խելացի, ինքնագիտակցությամբ օժտված եւ բարձր կազմակերպվածությամբ կենդանիներ են, որոնք մինչեւ մեր օրերը ապրած հնագույն կնճիթավորների խմբի ներկայացուցիչներն են, որոնք նախկինում բնակեցրել են ցամաքի մեծ մասը։ Ներկայումս փղերը բնության մեջ բնակվում են Հարավարեւելյան Ասիայի եւ Աֆրիկայի արեւադարձային անտառներում եւ սավանաներում։

Հնագույն ժամանակներից փղերին պաշտում են աշխարհի շատ ժողովուրդներ, շատ մշակույթներում նրանք համարվում են իշխանության եւ տիրակալների մեծության, իմաստության եւ հանդարտության, բարության եւ բարօրության խորհդանիշ։ Բուդդայական ցանկացած երկրում փղերին պաշտում են որպես երկարակեցության, շրջահայացության եւ ողջամտության խորհրդանիշ։

Նրանք մեծ դեր են խաղացել նաեւ մարդկանց իրական կյանքում։ Եվ անգամ հիմա մի շարք երկրների բարեկեցությունը, որտեղ տուրիզմը տնտեսության առանցքային ճյուղերից մեկն է, ուղղակիորեն «կախված» է փղերից, որոնք երկիր են գրավում զբոսաշրջիկներին։ Օրինակ՝ Թաիլանդում եւ Հնդկաստանում փղերը մասնակցում են բոլոր տոնակատարություններին՝ անկրկնելի կոլորիտ ստեղծելով, պոլո են խաղում, մասնակցում մրցարշավների, նկարում են՝ զվարճացնելով զբոսաշրջիկներին։

Սակայն հատկապես մարդն է փղի գլխավոր թշնամին։ Չէ՞ որ այս կենդանիների թվաքանակի կրճատման հիմնական պատճառներն են մարդկաց կողմից նրանց որսը հանուն ժանիքների եւ մսի, ոչնչացումը ցանքսերին հասցված վնասի պատճառով, փղերի բնակության բնական միջավայր անտառների հատումը, նաեւ ընդհանրապես էկոլոգիայի վատթարացումը։
