Առեղծվածային դեպք. Թռիչքից 37 րոպե անց ինքնաթիռը անհետացավ բոլոր ռադարներից․Օդաչուի վերջին խոսքը տարօրինակ էր…

970-ականների սկզբին Boeing 747-ը, Մաքդոնել Դուգլաս DC-10-ը և Լոքհիդ L-1011 Թրայսթարը դարձան լայնիրան ուղևորատար օդանավերի առաջին սերունդը։ 1978-ին Boeing-ը 1978ի-ն, Boeing ներկայացրեց երեք նոր մոդել՝ երկու շարժիչանի Բոինգ 757-ը, որը փոխարինեց պատկառելի 727-ին, նույնպես երկշարժիչանի 767-ը, որով մարտահրավեր էր նետում Airbus A300-ին, և եռաշարժիչ 777 կոնցեպտը՝ մրցակցելու համար DC-10-ի և L-1011-ի հետ։ Միջին չափսերի 757-ը և 767-ն ունեցան շուկայական հաջողություն։ Այս կանոնակարգերը թույլ տվեցին երկշարժիչանիներին օվկիանոսը երեք ժամից պակաս ժամանակում հատելու։ ETOPS-ի կանոններին հետևելով, ավիաընկերւթյուններն սկսեցին 767-ն օգտագործել անդրծովյան երկար չվերթներում։

1980-ականների վերջերին DC-10 և L-1011 մոդելները մոտեցել էին պատկառելի տարիքի, դրդելով արտադրողներին զարգացնել փոխարինող նմուշներ McDonnell Douglas-ն սկսեց աշխատել MD-11-ի վրա, այն դեպքում, երբ Airbus-ը զարգացնում էր իր A330-ը և A340-ը։ 1986-ին Boeing-ն առաջարկներ ներկայացրեց 767-ի մեծացման համար, որին տրվեց փորձնական 767-X անունը։ Առաջին առաջարկն էր 767-ի համեմատ ավելի երկար ֆուզելյաժի և ավելի մեծ թևերի կիրառումը։

Շահագործման տարիներին եղել է Boeing 777 տեսակի օդանավերի կորստի հինգ դեպք, զոհերի ընդհանուր քանակը կազմել է 540 մարդ։

2014 թ. գրանցվել է Malaysi Airlines ընկերության Boeing 777-ի կորստյան երկու դեպք՝
Մարտի 8-ին ռադարներից անհետ կորել է 9M-MRO օդանավը, ենթադրվում է, որ ներսի 239 մարդկանցով այն ընկել է Հնդկական օվկիանոսը, սակայն, մինչև հիմա որոնողական աշխատանքներն արդյունք չեն տվել։
Հուլիսի 7-ին 9M-MRD օդանավն ընկել է Ուկրաինայի արևելքում՝ Դոնեցկի մարզի Գրաբովո քաղաքի մոտ, որտեղ ընթանում էին զինված գործողություններ։ Ենթադրվում է, որ օդանավը խփվել է պատերազմող կողմերից մեկի կողմից։
