Կարող ենք վստահաբար այսպիսի բան պատկերացնել: Հանգստյան օրը քայլում եք այգում, դեռ ամառ է, լավ փայլում է արևը: Դուք պաղպաղակ եք ուտում և ինչ-որ բան զրուցում ընկերուհու հետ հեռախոսով: Ձեր առջևից հասուն տղամարդ է գնում, ով հանկարծ ուշաթափվում է և ընկնում գետնին:

Դուք մոտենում եք նրան, որպեսզի պարզեք՝ ամեն ինչ նորմալ է: Նա ասում է, թե ամեն ինչ նորմալ է՝ ասելով, թե սայթաքել է, դուք հավատում եք և յուրաքանչյուրը գնում է իր ճանապարհով: Գիշերն այդ մարդը մահանում է ինսուլտից:

Ընկած մարդուն ասա թող նախադասություն ասի, որը երեքից ավել բառ կունենա: Նախաինսուլտային վիճակում գտնվող մարդը չի կարող հոդաբաշխ նախադասություն ասել:

Խնդրիր վատացած մարդուն հանել լեզուն: Այն փոխված կլինի: Խնդրիր մարդուն, ով իրեն տարօրինակ է զգում, ձեռքերը գլխից վեր հանել: Եթե նա ինսուլտ է տանում, ապա նույնիսկ այդպիսի պարզ քայլը նա դժվարությամբ կկարողանա անել:

Եթե տարիքով մարդու մոտ այս նախանշաններից մեկը, ապա անհապաղ նրան հիվանդանոց տարեք: Շտապօգնություն կանչիր, նրանց տեղեկացրու կատարավածի մասին: Նրանք իսկապես գիտեն, թե ինչ է պետք անել:

Կան նաև այլ նախանշաններ, որոնք մարդիկ ևս զգում են: Դրանց թվին է պատկանում գլխապտույտը, գլխացավը, վերին և ստորին վերջույթների անշարժությունը, սրտխառնոցն ու աչքերից մեկի տեսողության կտրուկ վատացումը:
