1830-ական թթ. ոմն Արչիբալդ Մայլզը հայտարարել է, որ լոլիկի մեջ հայտնաբերել է նյութ, որով կարելի է փորլուծություն բուժել:

Մկան ֆարշ

Պատկերացրու, որ Հին Եգիպտոսում ես, և ատամդ ցավում է: Ատամիդ վրա մկան ֆարշ դիր:

Գորտնուկների դեմ միջոց

Մկներն ընդհանրապես համարվել են բուժիչ կենդանի: Օրինակ՝ Անգլիայում մկներին մեջտեղից կիսել են և մկան կեսը քսել գորտնուկի վրա՝ հույսով, որ այն կվերանա:

Անցյալում մկնդեղով մալարիան են «բուժել», իսկ կանայք Վիկտորիանական դարաշրջանում այն նույնիսկ օգտագործել են որպես կոսմետիկա:

Ու նորից Հին Եգիպտոս. բորբոսնած հացն օգտագործել են վերքերի ախտահանման համար: Դա իմաստ ունեցել է, քանի որ որոշ սնկեր իսկապես արգելափակում են վտանգավոր բակտերիաների առաջացումը:

Մի ժամանակ դրա միջոցով փորձել են բուժել անգինան: Այն պետք է պարտադիր լիներ չորացրած և սպիտակ:

Շնաձկան աճառ

1950-ական թթ. գիտնականնրը պարզել են, որ շնաձկները քաղցկեղով չեն հիվանդանում, և անմիջապես էնտուզիաստները սկսել են շնաձկան աճառ ուտել՝ հուսալով, որ այդպիսով սարսափելի հիվանդությունն իրենց կշրջանցի:

Հանգստացնող սիրոպ

«Միսիս Ուինսլոու հանգստացնող սիրոպը» մի ժամանակ բավական տարածված է եղել: Միջոցի բաղադրութան մեջ եղել է մորֆին և ալկոհոլ:

Սնդիկ

XX դարի սկզբին սնդիկն օգտագործել են սիֆիլիսի բուժման համար: Ատամների կորուստը, նյարդաբանական խանգարումները, խոցերը պարզապես կողմնակի ազդեցություն են եղել:

Ամերիկացի հոգեբույժ Հենրի Էնդրյուս Քոթթոնը համոզված է եղել, որ հոգեկան հիվանդությունները մեր օրգազնիզմը գրոհած վարակների հետևանք են, ուստի հեռացրել է իր հիվանդների բոլոր ատամները, նշագեղձերը, փայծաղը և այլ «պոտենցիալ վտանգավոր» օրգաններ:
